Luxe Nesting
BY: LIZ JONES
The chill of Autumn is in the air and it’s time to pull out your favorite wardrobe pieces and cuddle up in your cozy nest of luxury at home…
I happily anticipate the change of the seasons, but Fall has to be my favorite time of year! I truly love watching the colors of the leaves changing, sitting by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate, reading a good book, or settling in to watch a movie in the evening in my comfy clothes, I guess you could say I’m a bit of a homebody.
Out of organizational necessity, at the beginning of every new season I always plan on converting my closet and pulling out my most beloved, cozy and comfortable “go to” easy pieces to wear and enjoy, especially in great anticipation of the holiday season to come! I love bundling up in my favorite sweaters, coats, scarves and gloves, I especially love all the fabulous boots of the season (my personal obsession) and have missed them all terribly after having put them away for the Spring and Summer months! At this time, I’m eagerly looking forward to editing and reviewing my wardrobe options of what to add and what to subtract, but somehow my home isn’t always at the top of that list!
Until now…
I have to say that the year 2020 has been a “fast forward” year of change, challenges and, on a positive note, personal re-discovery. I have come to realize that home “wardrobing” and adding new items to incorporate into my personal wardrobe to wear at home has been a delightful distraction and new obsession for me, which has allowed me to embrace the comforts of home and has created an environment that I truly enjoy spending time with my family and most of all, just being “in”!
Every home truly has its own attitude and personality just like its inhabitants! But every now and then when you find yourself bored of looking at the same four walls or realizing you’re missing a useful object (there’s nothing worse than an empty and lonely corner) it may be time for a little spruce up!

I have found that just like how we dress ourselves, we all have our own personal style, color and texture preferences. Some people enjoy color and fearlessly wear it from head to toe and other people prefer a more quiet and softer neutral palette, maybe with an occasional accent of color like a scarf to mix things up! Personally speaking, I have always been a basic black and grey kind of girl who only uses color as a “pop” to accent, but what I currently have embraced is soft and calming neutrals for myself and my home. Somehow these timeless colors and luxe textures are so soft and easy on the eyes, especially in robes, throws and pillows when they’re created in soft to the touch materials like cashmere, alpaca or mohair. I really enjoy “experi-mixing” the textures of the furnishings in the colder months to be more reminiscent of my favorite knit sweaters.
Home accessories should not only be functional, but they should be chic pieces that enhance your home environment, and are also easy on the eyes and makes you just want to wrap yourself up in a blanket of tactile luxury after a long and stressful day. Home accessories are also an easy way to create an intriguing back drop while working from home on daily Zoom calls! Nowadays a beautiful cashmere throw can also work double duty, draped over the arm of your sofa or at the foot of your bed, or to wear around your shoulders while dining outside at a restaurant to ward off any potential chill!

While I’m on the subject of “must have” home accessories, every home should also have a memorable scent as well! Just like your very own personal signature perfume that you wear, the special scent that reminds someone of you when they smell it, our homes also need their very own fragrance in the form of beautiful candles and diffusers that evoke their own special feeling for the season or mood.
There really and truly is no place like home and surrounding ourselves with the people and things that we love! There’s nothing more inviting than creating your own perfect sanctuary and living in a beautifully dressed home, trading your clothing of the day for a sumptuous cashmere robe, sitting by the fire nestled in pillows with a glass of wine, lighting your favorite candle and letting the cares of the day fade away to shades of grey….
